West Broad Village stores gear up for Small Business Saturday

SHORT PUMP, Va. (WRIC) – Before you pick up the phone and load your cart online this holiday season, West Broad Village retailers are hoping you’ll think, shop and buy local. On Black Friday, retailers braced for Small Business Saturday.

Transitions Float Studio is among stores hoping to gain community support this Saturday. The store not only offers floating therapy, but has a salt cave. Consumers can purchase a gift certificate or wellness credits and offer health as a gift.

“It has really, really great benefits for upper respiratory tract issues, sinus related issues, allergies,” owner Dan Jenkins said. He says there are even reports of salt treatments helping those who struggle with snoring.

While Black Friday was quiet in West Broad Village in Short Pump, Jenkins is counting on heavy foot traffic on Saturday. It cuts prices in preparation.

“So for Shop Small Business Saturday, we’re offering the biggest discounts of the year,” Jenkins said.

From wellness services and pottery to pampering gifts, West Broad Village promises small stores with great options. Stores like Ironworks, a men’s grooming and supplies company, carried everything from natural soaps to beard oils and balms.

Customers can also pick up a gift certificate for a proper haircut or facial treatment.

“West Broad Village has a very diverse offering in terms of service, shopping and dining,” Jenkins said.

Color Wheel Coffee owners Will and Brianna Libby hope to keep customers caffeinated and warm while they shop on Saturdays.

“We hope to see a lot of people come through. There are a bunch of great local businesses in this strip, ”said Will Libby.

Color Wheel Coffees also offers a range of products including t-shirts and hats. Brianna Libby added, “We have a mix of vacations. It has notes of candied fruit, spices and nuts.

Supply chain shortages have been a struggle for small retailers this year. Packaging has been the biggest issue for Color Wheel Coffee.

“We don’t really have the capital, we just store a whole bunch of stuff. So when all of a sudden you have to buy things 2, 3, 4 months in advance, it becomes a bit difficult.

Retailers say it’s all the more reason to show your local store a little love this holiday season. Most stores in West Broad Village are open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
