MAYVILLE — The Town of Chautauqua and the Village of Mayville invite all residents and community stakeholders to launch the town and village’s joint comprehensive plan by attending an information meeting on Thursday, September 29 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Carlson Community Center (50 West Lake Road, Mayville).

The master plan is one of the most important documents of a municipality. It establishes a baseline of city and town priorities, identifies the community’s future vision, prioritizes local and regional policies and actions, and provides context for future decision-making about public and private investments in our community. Through this framework, the comprehensive plan helps the community achieve its future vision of smart growth, environmental stewardship and economic development.

By developing a joint comprehensive plan, the city and village will be well positioned to identify opportunities to further coordinate services and programming and promote development models that complement and benefit both communities. The city and village kicked off the comprehensive planning process by submitting an application to the NYS Smart Growth Comprehensive Planning Grant Program in July. In order to maintain the momentum of this project while waiting for the announcement of the grants, the city and the village will organize a public information meeting and launch a community survey. Participants at the September 29 meeting:

¯ Listen to a presentation on the benefits and basics of comprehensive community planning,

¯ Hear an overview of completed tasks and next steps,

¯ Preview the preliminary project website,

¯ Find out about the upcoming community survey that will help inform the full plan.

All residents, business owners and landlords, community leaders and anyone interested in the future of the Town of Chautauqua and the Village of Mayville are invited to attend this public information meeting. Your participation in this project is essential to directing the overall joint plan and ensuring that it reflects the vision and values of the community.
