From August 25-28, One World Market is hosting its annual fair trade rug sale event at St. Catherine’s Church in Siena.

Each year, One World Market partners with Bunyaad, a non-profit organization that brings heirloom-quality handmade rugs to Ithaca every year.

Bunyaad works directly with 850 families of carpet makers in Pakistan. Each rug sold can be traced back to the family that made it, the village where it was made, and the local Bunyaad supervisor who oversees rug production. The program does not work with rug manufacturers who employ school-aged children and encourages families to send all their children to school. He even contributed to the establishment of many schools in Pakistan.

Everyone should come see this! Each rug is literally a work of art, each representing hundreds of hours of work and hundreds of years of tradition.

You will find a large selection of heirloom quality hand knotted rugs in styles ranging from classic to contemporary. There are tribal, Bokhara and Persian rugs in every color to suit every room, in sizes ranging from 2’x3′ to 10’x14′.

Location: St. Catherine of Siena Church, near Hanshaw Road.

Event hours:

Thursday-Friday-Saturday 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Sunday 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
