Floods destroy Karnaya village in Jigawa

Heavy rains rendered hundreds of residents of Karnaya village homeless as floods washed away more than half of the houses.

Karnaya is a few kilometers from Dutse, the capital of Jigawa State.

The flood which started around 6pm on Saturday evening kept the whole village awake until Sunday evening, forcing villagers to take refuge in the village school buildings.

Jigawa State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) Executive Secretary Yusuf Sani Babura, who confirmed the incident, said the whole village had been ravaged and they were working to provide shelter and food for the victims.

“It’s true; the whole village is now down. I am currently there with my men trying to find food and shelter for the victims,” he said.
